Fall 2025 Theatre Auditions
The Bobbi Biron Theatre Program invites all students to audition for its upcoming productions on Wednesday September 3rd at 7pm, in the Fulton Hall Black Box Theatre ! Auditions are for the Fall 2025 play Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare and Adapted by Gaby Rodriguez and The Acting Company for The Directing Class Performance.
Callbacks will be on Sunday, September 7th @ 12-4pm in the Fulton Hall Black Box Theatre
AUDITIONS ARE OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS—YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A THEATRE MAJOR!
We always seek casts embodying our program’s commitment to diversity of identity, artistry, and ideas. You do not have to be an SU theatre student to audition.
NOTE TO THEATRE MAJORS: All current SU Theatre Majors in the Performance Track are required to audition. Please indicate on your audition form if you cannot commit to being cast.
Audition Requirements
Audition: Wednesday September 3rd at 7:00 PM
Please prepare:
- a fully-memorized Shakespeare monologue. The monologue should show range and offer a glimpse of your interests and strengths as a performer.

Callbacks: Sunday, September 7 th from 12:00-4:00pm
Callbacks will be held this afternoon, during which you will be asked to read selections from the script while paired up with other actors. These callbacks will be for Much Ado. If you are not called back for Much Ado, you could still be in consideration for the Acting Company for the Directing Class Performance. Please keep an eye on your email for a casting notice on the evening of 9/7.

Show Descriptions
Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare and adapted by Gaby Rodriguez
Description: In this joyful adaptation by Gaby Rodriguez of one of Shakespeare’s great comedies, shenanigans abound. A neighborhood block party welcoming returning soldiers is the setting where love conquers all, misunderstandings are resolved, and a scout leader helms the night watch to collaborate with the audience and ensure the villain gets caught.
Characters:
- Don Pedro- Prince and victor in the war
- Claudio- A young lord, soldier, and good friend to Don Pedro and Benedick. Falls in love with Hero.
- Benedick- A young lord, soldier, and good friend to Don Pedro and Claudio. Has a contentious relationship with Beatrice that turns into love.
- Leonato- Alderman and respected community member of 糖心Vlog, MD and the eastern shore. Father to Hero, uncle to Beatrice, brother to Antonio.
- Hero- Daughter to Leonato and best friend to her cousin Beatrice. Falls in love with Claudio.
- Beatrice- Niece to Leonato and best friend to her cousin Hero. Has a contentious relationship with Benedick that turns into love.
- Margaret- Personal assistant to Leonato’s family and friend to Hero and Beatrice.Has a romantic past with Borachio.
- Don John- Don Pedro’s half-brother who is the result of an extramarital affair and loser in the war.
- Conrade- Follower of Don John
- Borachio- Follower of Don John. Has a romantic past with Margaret.
- Dogberry- A scout leader and head of the Neighborhood Night Watch
- Verges- A scout and member of the Neighborhood Night Watch
- Watchman Davy- A scout and member of the Neighborhood Night Watch
- Antonio- Brother to Leonato.
Intimacy Requirements:
- Benedick and Beatrice- There is physical touch and a kiss between these 2 characters.
- Hero and Claudio- There is physical touch between these 2 characters.
- Margaret and Borachio- There is physical touch and a kiss between these 2 characters.
All intimacy will be carefully choreographed in the rehearsal room with an intimacy coordinator, ensuring the physical, psychological, and emotional safety of those involved. Best practices regarding consent will be a part of the production process.

Directing Performance
Description: This will be an evening of scenes directed by the directing class students. Jess Shoemaker is the professor for this class. Actors cast will operate as a company of actors the directing students will use to cast the scenes they will stage for their performance final.
- Schedule: Rehearsals typically run Sundays through Fridays, 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
- Rehearsals- Sunday through Friday from 7:00-11:00 PM, beginning Monday, October 27
- Tech- December 9-12 @7-11pm
- *TECH AND DRESS REHEARSALS CANNOT BE MISSED*
- Performances- December 13 at 7:30 PM, December 14 at 2:00 PM
- Strike- December 14 post-show
